The new Nissan Altima is a perfect family sedan offering a sharp exterior look, a spacious cabin, and two strong powertrain choices. Inside and out, there's a lot to enjoy about the 2024 Nissan Altima, so let's take a closer look at what drivers can expect to find when this car goes on sale later this year.
What's New for 2024?
For the new model year, Nissan is slightly refreshing the Altima. This refresh will see updates to the exterior design with new wheels, a redesigned front fascia, and new LED headlights. There are also two new paint colors available: Gray Sky Pearl and Garnet Pearl Metallic.
Besides the exterior changes, the interior will also see some updates. A new 12.3-inch touchscreen will be standard on the SL, and SR trims, and Nissan is adding its Safety Shield 360 driver assist technology standard equipment.
Performance
No major changes coming to the powertrains of the new Nissan Altima. So, Merrill residents will still find a 2.5-liter four-188-hp cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission standard under the hood. The optional turbocharged 2.0-liter 248-horsepower four-cylinder engine is also available.
With no changes made to the powertrains, the fuel economy for the Nissan Altima will stay the same. According to the EPA, when equipped with front-wheel drive, the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine gets an estimated 28 mpg city and 39 highway. With all-wheel drive, those estimates drop to 26 mpg city and 36 mpg on the highway.
Interior
The interior of the Altima is quite spacious and rather comfortable. Along with a user-friendly infotainment display, the front seats are among the standout features, as they can accommodate a wide variety of body types. The Altima also has decent storage in the front seat, with narrow but deep door pockets and a useful tray at the front of the center console.
As for the rear storage, it was found that the Altima's cargo area can hold six carry-on bags, 17 bags total, with the rear seats folded. Unfortunately, the rear seats don't fold completely flat, making storing larger items difficult.
Technology
Coming standard on the Altima is an eight-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Though, as already mentioned, higher trims will receive the new 12.3-inch monitor. And this will offer navigation, wireless phone charging, and Wi-Fi hotspot. Regardless of the monitor Stevens Point drivers choose, each will offer useful knobs that control the volume and tuning of the vehicle's audio system.
Additional features include a panoramic sunroof, a Bose premium audio system, and heated front seats and steering wheel.
Safety
All Altima models come standard with Nissan's Safety Shield 360. This suite of advanced driver-aids includes forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. There's even a semi-autonomous drive mode called ProPilot Assist.
For the 2024 model year, though, Nissan has expanded its safety features to include pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor.
